How do I submit my site to Baidu?

Verify the site, push your URLs, then check your own quota, because the sitemap route is no longer a safe assumption.

The short answer

Verify your site in Baidu's Search Resource Platform, then push URLs through the API or enter them in the manual form. Sitemap access is uncertain in 2026, so check your own account. Submission only helps Baidu discover pages. Baidu says it doesn't guarantee indexing, and the tool works only for verified sites.

  1. Baidu's tool opens only to verified sites, a rule set out in its notice of March 1, 2021.
  2. A single API request can carry up to 2,000 URLs, according to Baidu's manual, last updated in August 2020.
  3. Since September 2023, Baidu has cut sitemap submission for low-quality sites and for accounts without real-name verification.
  4. The Egg reported in June 2026 that Baidu ended direct XML sitemap submission in December 2025, without linking a source.
  5. Index-type sitemap files have been refused since July 8, 2020, and one on file blocks new submissions.

Most guides on this topic are short, and many are out of date. Some still point to tools Baidu has retired.

This one sticks to what Baidu has written, with dates, and says where the evidence runs out. It’s part of our guide to Baidu SEO.

We read Baidu’s platform pages logged out, so we haven’t seen the account screens. Menu names below come from Baidu’s documents, and yours may differ.

What do you need before you submit?

You need a verified site, and in practice a real-name account. Baidu’s tool is open only to verified sites, so there’s no public form for an unknown URL.3

RequirementWhy it mattersWhere to read more
Baidu’s help contradicts itself: one page says mainland numbers only 21, another allows foreign numbers through four products but not EU numbers 26The phone number problem
Verified siteNo verification, no tool 3Setting up Webmaster Tools

Each hostname verifiedSince 2021, unverified sites on the same main domain can’t be submitted 314Verify every hostname you plan to submit
Reachable pagesBaiduspider must be able to fetch them 17Why your site isn’t showing

Baidu tells users to complete real-name verification in the Baidu App.4 We couldn’t confirm that a foreign passport works there.

Which submission method should you use?

Use the manual form for a few key pages, and the API for anything regular. Treat the sitemap as a bonus if your account offers it. Baidu’s tool has these three methods.2 The limits below come from its manual, last updated in August 2020, so your account may differ.

MethodBest forPublished limitNeeds a developer?
ManualHomepage and a few key pagesNone foundNo
API pushNew pages, on the day they go live 22,000 URLs per request, daily quota varies 2Yes, or a plugin
SitemapWhole-site lists50,000 URLs and 10 MB per file 2Only to generate the file

Baidu calls the API its fastest method, and says sitemaps are indexed more slowly than API pushes.6 It also says original and time-sensitive content suits the API best.14

How to submit URLs by hand

This route needs no code, so it’s the natural first step for a small site.

  1. Log in to the Search Resource Platform and select your verified site.
  2. Open the tool. Go to 资源提交 (resource submission), then 普通收录 (normal indexing).15 Our English guide to the menus helps here.
  3. Choose 手动提交 (manual submission).
  4. Enter your URLs and submit them.

Start with your homepage and your main Chinese pages. Submitting pages one by one won’t scale, and Baidu’s manual gives no number for this method.2

How to submit URLs through the API

You send a plain-text POST with one URL per line, and Baidu answers with a count. Copy your call address from the API section of the tool, since it holds your site and your token.

  1. Find your token. Baidu’s manual describes it as a 16-character string.2 Treat it like a password.
  2. List your URLs in a text file, one per line.
  3. Send the file. Baidu’s manual shows this curl form:2
curl -H 'Content-Type:text/plain' --data-binary @urls.txt "http://data.zz.baidu.com/urls?site=www.example.com&token=YOUR_TOKEN"
  1. Read the response, then log the result.
FieldMeaning 2
successURLs accepted in this request
remainURLs you can still push today
not_same_siteURLs ignored because they aren’t on this site
not_validURLs rejected as invalid

Watch remain above all, because it’s your real quota. A January 2021 Baidu article listed a shared quota of 100,000 URLs a day on its API row, without saying what shares it.15

That number is old, and Baidu adjusted API quotas in September 2023.4

An undated entry in a WordPress plugin changelog says quotas are “as low as 10/day for some sites”.16 A V2EX user reported 10 a day on a new site in March 2025, and said they had asked Baidu for more.9

Baidu’s manual says the daily limit depends on how many new, valuable links you send.2 It also warns that resending old links can lower your quota, or cost you API access.2

Can you still submit a sitemap?

We can’t confirm it, so check your own account. Baidu’s manual still describes sitemaps, but reports since 2023 point to a much narrower route, and one source says it has closed.

DateSourceWhat it says
Oct 2015BaiduSitemap access to open to all verified sites 11
Sept 2023BaiduSitemap submission shut for low-quality sites and sites in accounts without real-name verification. Compliant sites to get rights and quotas back after the holiday 4
Mar 2025V2EX usersPersonal reports: sitemap can’t be submitted, one of them on a new site 9
June 2026The EggBaidu ended direct XML sitemap submission in December 2025, with no source linked 8
Nov 2026Baidu’s news pageNo title mentions closing sitemaps 10

The Egg’s article also shows a caption reading “Zero quota available for XML sitemap submissions”.8 It speaks only of XML files, and doesn’t mention TXT. We found no Baidu announcement that matches its claim, in English or Chinese searches.

That absence proves little, because Baidu’s manual dates from 2020 and its tool log stops in 2021.27 The evidence simply doesn’t settle it.

Verdict

Look at your quota under 资源提交, 普通收录, sitemap提交, where Baidu says it’s shown.15 If it’s missing or at zero, move on to the API and internal links.

If your account does offer it, Baidu says the quota depends on your site’s quality.15 Follow the format rules in its 2020 manual:2

  • Format: TXT or XML. TXT files are UTF-8 or GBK, with one full URL per line.
  • Size: 50,000 URLs and 10 MB per file.
  • Site total: fewer than 50,000 “sitemap links”, a term Baidu doesn’t define, or it stops processing and shows a warning.
  • URL length: each <loc> is capped at 256 bytes.
  • Characters: Baidu suggests avoiding Chinese in URLs, because of encoding problems.
  • Scope: only URLs from the verified site the file belongs to. This 2021 rule is stricter than the manual’s line on main domains.23
  • ETag: Baidu strongly advises enabling it, and says it fetches ETag sitemaps more often.211

Index files are the classic trap. Baidu stopped supporting them on July 8, 2020,7 and a leftover one blocks new files until you delete it.1415

What about Fast Crawl?

You probably can’t use it yet. Fast Crawl (快速抓取) replaced Fast Indexing (快速收录), which Baidu took offline on April 26, 2024.12

Baidu grants it automatically to some high-quality sites, after its own evaluation, and it accepts only mobile and responsive pages.6

Baidu’s guide says such content is generally indexed within 48 hours.6 That describes a selected group, not your new site.

A V2EX poster said in March 2025 that fast crawl had no effect for them, and that you can’t submit quickly without the permission.9 That’s one person’s report, and we haven’t seen a test on a foreign site.

What to do after you submit

Read the response, test the page, then measure. Baidu says the tool can speed up crawling but can’t settle whether content gets indexed.1

  3. index volume

  4. Content review if still absent

  1. Check data feedback. It shows the links accepted that day, after removing duplicates.15
  2. Run a crawl diagnosis. Baidu’s 2020 manual gives each site 70 tests a week, showing the first 200 KB the spider sees.17
  3. Fix connection errors. Baidu points to slow servers, and to firewalls or DoS protection that block the spider.17 Check that you aren’t blocking real Baiduspider traffic.27
  4. Read index volume. Baidu treats it as the reference, not the site: operator.23 Our guide to checking indexed pages explains how.
  5. Review the content. If a page stays out, Baidu says to ask whether it’s high quality, useful and not a near duplicate.13

Be careful with recent figures. Baidu says index volume data from October 14 to 23, 2026 has no reference value, after a fault.22

If your content sits in JavaScript, read whether Baidu reads JavaScript before you submit more URLs.

The bottom line

Verify the site, submit your key pages by hand, and use the API for new pages. Check your sitemap quota instead of assuming you have one, since the evidence conflicts.

Submission only introduces a URL. Whether the page gets indexed depends on what Baidu finds when it arrives.

Common questions

Do I need an ICP to use Baidu's submission tool?

We found no rule saying so. A Baidu notice from May 2021 capped sites without an ICP at one sitemap file per day,7 so those sites had access to the tool at that date. We can't say whether that cap still applies. Our guide to ranking without an ICP covers the wider question.

How long after submitting will my page appear on Baidu?

Baidu gives no number. Its 2021 Q&A says only that indexing runs on a cycle, and that valuable pages are crawled and indexed within it.13 A figure quoted by a vendor is an estimate at best. Our guide on how long Baidu takes looks at what the published evidence supports and where it stops.

Should I submit an English-language site?

You can try, but don't expect much. We found no official Baidu text on English sites. WebNots, in replies from 2015 and 2020, says Chinese sites are preferred and that a fully English site probably won't gain much.24 That's an opinion, not a rule. Our guide to English sites on Baidu has the available evidence.

Can I pay someone to submit my site to Baidu?

Freelance marketplaces list that service,25 but the tool only accepts verified sites,3 so a seller needs your site verified in an account they control. You'd then rely on someone else's account for your data. We'd rather you keep the account under your own control, or agree in writing who holds it.

Does submitting to Baidu also cover 360, Sogou or Bing?

We found nothing saying it does. Baidu describes the tool as pushing data to Baidu Search.1 Other engines run their own crawlers and webmaster services, so don't count on a Baidu submission to reach them. Our guide to which Chinese search engines to target helps you decide which ones are worth the extra setup for your market.
